Confidential: Tafsīr of Surah Al-Nur
The Quran does not only address theological or historical concepts and stories. It also conveys, as a primary purpose, guidance on some of the most difficult practical situations we find ourselves in. Confidential is a study of Surah Al-Nur and its major theme; fornication and adultery (Zina), the slander of our mother ‘Aisha (r), the laws of Hijab, the etiquettes of interaction for both genders, personal and family privacy, and manners to be observed when entering others’ homes.

Divine Speech: Beginner's Guide to Exploring the Quran
Most Muslims at some point in their life learn how to read the Quran and memorize its shorter Surahs. However, the task of actually understanding the Quran is often perceived as either too daunting or as simple as reading any book. Divine Speech has been tailored by Miftaah’s experienced instructors to help the beginner on this journey. We will cover the concepts, methods, and causes of revelation (Wahy), the history of the compilation of the Quran, the miraculous nature (I’jaz) of the Quran, the prerequisites of explaining the Quran (Tafsir), current English translations available, and common mistakes made when attempting to understand the Quran.

Faith from a Cave: Tafsir of Surah Al-Kahf
Trials (Fitan) are an inseparable part of life in this world. Our Prophet ﷺ taught us to recite Surah al-Kahf every Friday to protect ourselves from the Fitan of this world, including the greatest of them, the Dajjal. The Cave of Faith is an in-depth study of the themes, messages and lessons learned from Surah al-Kahf, with pauses to reflect on the Fitan we face today and deriving inspiration from the four timeless tales the Surah is structured around.

Inevitable: Tafsīr of Surah Al-Waqi’ah and Al-Rahman
One of the major weaknesses we as humans struggle with is the distraction of this world a heedlessness of the Afterlife. Knowing this weakness of ours, Allah ﷻ revealed Surah Al-Waqi’ah, which comprehensively and powerfully conveys the reality of the Afterlife and what awaits us. Inevitable is an eye opening study of the Afterlife based on Surah Al-Waqi’ah. We will cover the inevitable coming of the Day of Judgment, its terrors, the joys that await the believers, the punishment that awaits the wicked, and the thought provoking arguments this Surah puts forth for humanity to awaken and prepare for the Afterlife.

Sacred Foundations II: Nawawi’s 40 Hadith Explained
The Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ is a vast ocean of guidance and wisdom that the Ummah has preserved from the very beginning of times. Imam Al-Nawawi attempted to put forth a carefully chosen collection of the 40 most foundational Hadith, which would benefit both the beginner and expert. Allah ﷻ had destined for his work to become one of the most widely read and studied works today. Sacred Foundations II is a thorough study of the first half of Imam Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith. Prophetic Praise: Virtues of The Companions From Sahih Muslim
The companions (r) of the Prophet ﷺ and his family (Ahl al-Bayt) were chosen by Allah to accompany him in his mission and be the pioneers in spreading the message of Islam. Oft-read: Tafsir of Juz 30

Struggles: Wisdoms of the Makkan Seerah
Sent to the people of Quraysh in Makkah, our Prophet ﷺ was tasked with beginning his Da’wah in a city that would completely turn on him. For 13 years, he ﷺ would face struggle after struggle in fulfilling the responsibility. Although we have much more detail of the Madinan period of the Sirah, the Makkan period carries a relevance that is very strong for us here in the west. Struggles is a study of the extremely relevant era of the Sirah of the Prophet ﷺ from his birth till his Hijrah to Madinah with a special focus on the wisdoms and lessons for us.

Model Successors: Lives of the Four Caliphs
After the passing of our Prophet ﷺ, this Ummah saw its finest lead the Muslims. The Followers: Lives of the students of the Companions

Struggles: Wisdoms of the Makkan Seerah
Having been sent to the people of Quraysh in Makkah, one of the most corrupt societies of the time, delivering the message of Islam was no easy task. The Makkan Era is a must study for Muslims living in the west in order to find guidance on how the Prophet (s) stayed true to his principles while being in a society that persecuted him for no reason other than being Muslim. Blissful Departure: Fiqh of Death + Inheritance
We all wish to leave this world and help those who have left this world in the best of ways. When bidding our loved ones farewell, we often find ourselves confused about the process of their Ghusl, Janazah or inheritance. A fleeting thought comes to our mind to later study this in detail but the flow of life keeps us from it. Blissful Departure is a study of the funeral prayer and procedure (Janazah), wills and bequests, the laws of inheritance, and the correct method of burial. Students will also study the concept of death as taught to us by Islam.

The works on Islamic Law (Fiqh) often begin with the chapter on Purification (Taharah). This is a must-take class for every Muslim due to purification being a mandatory condition before one prays. This class will cover the principles and rulings of pure/impure substances, wudu’, tayammum, ghusl, their nullifiers, and more.

Fiqh of Fasting and Zakah
This class will cover the Islamic Law behind fasting as well as giving Zakat. Once a year, Allah obligates us to discharge 2.5% of our excess wealth to the needy. But how do I calculate my Zakah? What defines ‘excess wealth’? Whom can I give it to? How much money do I need to possess in order for Zakah to be obligatory on me? This class will cover the principles and rulings of Zakah in detail in a systematic manner. Additionally, this class will cover the Fiqh of Fasting. Fasting was ordained by Allah ﷻ upon us in order for us to be a people of consciousness (Taqwa). A fast that is observed with all the rulings implemented is a key ingredient to attaining Taqwa. Students will study the principles and rulings of fasting in detail. We will cover the do’s and don’ts of fasting, the types of fast, what nullifies the fast, how to make up missed fasts, contemporary Fiqh issues, and more. Prepare well for your Ramadhan by taking this important class!

The Final Hour: Signs of Day of Judgment
Times like these tend to bring up assumptions pertaining to the nearness of the Day of Judgment and start debates about the manifestations of its signs. They tend to put the Ummah on edge and we often forget that the sunnah of the Prophet SAW was to stay optimistic even if we were to hear the tune of the trumpet. He encouraged us to continue to plant our crops while staying conscious of the final hour so that we can abstain from contributing to the evil of the last days. Many of the present circumstances have caused us to contemplate the realities of the final day and created questions that many do not know the answers to. Through this course, we will equip ourselves with sound education to aid in our navigation through the conundrums of our era.

Hardened Hearts: Heart Softening Hadiths from Tabrizi's Mishkat
The Chapter on Heart softeners (Kitab Al-Riqaq) is one that is found in nearly every Hadith collection. A tried treatment by Muslims throughout the centuries, reading this genre of Hadith softens the heart in order to enable it to be receptive of Allah’s orders as explained by the Prophet (s). Imam Tabrizi weaves together the most pertinent narrations of this genre in his masterpiece, Mishkat Al-Masabih. A must-take class for anyone struggling with the state of their heart.

Connected: Fiqh of Salah
The ritual that we perform five times a day needs to be well prepared for. Salah is our primary connection with Allah and we don’t want to be performing it in the wrong way. This class will offer a complete breakdown of Salah, including prerequisites and an end to end walkthrough. Issues such as Adhan, Congregational Salah and Jumuah will also be discussed. This class will leave you with a clear roadmap of the Salah.

Applied Prayer: Spiritual Aspects of Salah
Our discussions on Salah usually around the Fiqh or legal issues which are important in their own ways. However, one of the most pressing questions asked is ‚Why do I not feel spiritually connected when I pray? This class will explore the secrets, tips and tried methods to transform the spiritual aspects of our prayer.

Code Of Manners: Imam Al-Bukhari's Al-Adab Al-Mufrad
Imam Al-Bukhari’s Sahih is well known, but he also wrote a dedicated work on mannerisms titled Al-Adab Al-Mufrad. In this class, we will focus on a select number of Hadiths of the Prophet (s) from this monumental work that will help us grow in our spiritual development through perfecting our character.

Graduation
Requirements

22 courses are required to be completed in order for a student to graduate from the Miftaah Online Seminary. A student can choose from our catalogue of courses based on the subject and genre they wish to pursue. Each department has its own track to earn a certificate of completion. Students will also be given a certificate at the completion of each semester. Student transcripts are available upon request.

* Graduation is not a requirement. A student may pick and chose any course and join for any one semester.
